REHABILITATION SERVICE COURSES

RHS 331 Introduction to Rehabilitation credit 3 hrs.

This introductory course examines the history, philosophy, and legal basis of the state/federal vocational rehabilitation program and independent living programs; the role of rehabilitation professionals, advocacy and processes of rehabilitation.

RHS 332 Psychosocial Aspects of Disability credit 3 hrs.

This course provides an overview of the psychological and sociological aspects of severe disabilities such as traumatic brain injuries, persistent mental illness, and learning disabilities. The purpose of the course is to provide both theoretical and practical information so that students have an appreciation for and understanding of the adjustment factors in living with disabilities, knowledge of community attitudes, as well as strategies to change those attitudes.

RHS 431 Introduction to Vocational Evaluation credit 3 hrs.

This introductory course provides an overview of types and purposes of traditional vocational assessments; the use of vocational assessment measures and assessment for support employment services; and measures of physical capabilities/functional limitations and independent living skills.

RHS 432 Aspects of Career Development in Vocational Rehabilitation credit 3 hrs.

This course provides an overview of placement theory related to traditional job placement and support employment as well as practical experiences in developing placement plans, consulting with employers to identify employment opportunities, educating employers about disabilities, and assisting employers in the identification and removal of barriers to employment for persons with disabilities.

RHS 330 Practicum credit 3 hrs.

The practicum will be completed in a rehabilitation facility or agency. Students perform entry-level activities for 30 hours per week for six weeks.
