Education, Child & Family Studies Dept.Student OrganizationsMINORITY ACCESS TO TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM The Minority Access to Teacher Education (MATE) program is a major thrust to address the critical need for minority teachers for the state's public schools. The program is designed to recruit high schools students-primarily from rural areas-to commit to teaching as a career. RICHLAND ONE ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROGRAM In this program approximately 50 businesses and institutions in the District have adopted schools to provide a variety of services, including tutoring, computer instruction, etc. W.A. Perry Middle School is Benedict College's adoptee. SOUTH CAROLINA STUDENT EDUCATION ASSOCIATION South Carolina Student Education Association (SC-SEA) is a pre-professional organization for students in education who have not yet been active as career educators. The primary purpose of the organization is to help education majors make a smooth transition from the campus to the classroom. SEA sponsors instructional and professional development programs that supplement formal college training and broaden students' perspectives concerning the education profession. TEACHER CADET PROGRAM Teacher Cadets are high school juniors and seniors who are considering teaching as a career. The program is a project of the South Carolina Center for Teacher Recruitment (SCCTR). Benedict College is paired with Eau Claire High School. The course, Introduction to Teaching, is team taught at Eau Claire High School by an Eau Claire teacher and a Benedict instructor. |
