SPECIAL EDUCATION COURSES

EDSE 330 The Exceptional Child/Practicum credit 3 hrs.

The course provides the student with knowledge and understanding of exceptional children includingthe gifted and talented. The basic requirements of federal laws regarding the education of young children are addressed. Ten (10) hours of Practicum experience are required.

EDSE 331 Introduction to Learning Disabilities credit 3 hrs.

This course covers the study of children with learning disabilities. Topics covered include definitions, prevalence, identification, treatment procedures, and trends.

EDSE 333 Educational Procedures for Specific Learning Disabilities credit 3 hrs.

This course provides theoretical application of current instructional and remedial procedures for children with specific learning disabilities, including: multisensory techniques, behavior modification, diagnostic prescriptive teaching and administrative strategies for the education of children with learningdisabilities.

EDSE 432 Assessment of Special Children credit 3 hrs.

This course covers the foundations of assessment, including technical issues of school-based assessment, educational readiness, cognitive abilities, academic achievement, reading, math, language, andperceptual motor skills and abilities.

SUPPORT COURSES

EDU 230 Human Growth and Development credit 3 hrs.

An integrated study of the human life span, from the prenatal period through middle childhood andadolescence to the stages of early and later adulthood. Central to the course are the theories, principles, and processes by which change takes place in the physical, cognitive, and affective areas of development. Multicultural issues as they relate to social, educational, and familial factors will beaddressed.

EDU 332 Educational Psychology credit 3 hrs.

A study of the psychological principles basic to an understanding of the learner, the learning process,and the learning situation. Emphasis will be on the scientific study of the learning/ teaching andassessment process enabling the prospective teacher to integrate concepts into teaching strategies.
