Dean's Message:
The School of Business and Economics emerged from a departmental status within the last two years, to take leadership for introducing graduate studies to Benedict College. We celebrate the fact that the School has just introduced an MBA. Our MBA Program is designed to be the best in its class in the midlands and beyond. We embarked on this effort as a means of fulfilling the Colleges historic mission.
This school is a "power for good" that embraces the challenge of developing strategies to realize the business and management potential within the African American community in the state and the nation. Our undergraduate program represents our unique strength. In that program, our diverse and international faculty continues to bring the world of business and relevant global dynamics to our students in personal, professional and practical ways.
We value in our students, and we teach to attain the abilities of (i) communications, (ii) technological competence, (iii) teamwork, (iv) global citizenship, (v) entrepreneurial activities, (vi) analytical and critical thinking, (vii) high ethical standards and (viii) good judgment in decision making.
Activities in the school are encouraged to foster and sustain these abilities. For example, the school has especially encouraged students to participate in every facet of the schools life and development through academic clubs, discipline specific organizations, and a school student council. These beginning efforts are mere indicators of the fullness of student life and vibrancy that must be integral to our matriculation process.
Benchmarking and assessment criteria are increasingly permeating all our operations and our products. We facilitate ongoing monitoring of these activities through three departments in the School at present. Each of our departments (accounting, business administration and economics & finance) is sufficiently small that faculty can provide individualized attention to their students and advisees. We continue to expand our reliance on technology for classroom management and teaching pedagogy as we pursue our mission and serve our stakeholders. For example, our students and faculty are expected to communicate increasingly through emails, via the Internet and through course content and delivery options employing Blackboard.
Again, our people make the difference. In their roles as faculty, staff, students, they project their ongoing aspirations to attain higher heights! This is truly an exciting time to become a "Tiger" as a part of the School of Business and Economics.
As with business entities everywhere, we focus on growth in our assets. We invite all high school graduates who are willing to grow to join us on a very special "tiger" journey. We expect to bring you closer to your potential than you would realize at any other place!
