Mission Statement

Benedict College operates an academic library that provides broad support to a liberal arts curriculum. The library acquires and maintains adequate, as well as appropriate, print and electronic resources that support the College's general core of studies. The library is committed to the provision of a comprehensive system of services designed to facilitate effective student study and scholastic achievement. Furthermore, the library supports teaching instruction and through collection development strengthens faculty access to relevant materials in their fields of specialization. The physical facility housing the library provides a climate that is conducive to study and research, and enables the College to fulfill its obligations to students, faculty, and staff relative to the overall institutional mission and purpose. The library provides access to a variety of technological resources including CD-ROM, online databases, the Internet, and multimedia materials. In addition, it also maintains instructional media and archives center. The principles are realized through the pursuit of the following specific goals:

GOALS

  1. To acquire and maintain a comprehensive collection to support the curriculum.
  2. To Provide a wide range of library services in order to make the library
    resources more available to students and faculty.
  3. To maintain a competent, experienced and effective staff to carry out the
    Functions and responsibilities of the library in serving the students and faculty.
  4. To create and maintain cooperative resource sharing initiatives with other
    Academic libraries in order to broaden the availability of materials to students and faculty.
  5. To provide a facility that is conducive to study, appropriate for services and
    equipped to maximize utilization by students and faculty.
