OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM BENEDICT COLLEGE PRESIDENT
DR. DAVID H. SWINTON

I and the Benedict College family are deeply saddened by the tragic events in Charleston. We at Benedict College mourn the loss of those precious souls including our own fallen Tiger, Mrs. Myra Thompson. Mrs. Thompson earned a degree a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Benedict College in 1979. We pray for her husband, Rev. Anthony Thompson, who is also a Benedict graduate and all the families who lost loved ones.

Columbia, SC -- This spring, the U.S. Department of Education released a draft proposal for its long-awaited college-ratings system. Unfortunately, the system promises to be an example of federal overreach that does little to provide real solutions to the urgent challenges facing South Carolina students and institutions of higher education.

bc_license_plate001Columbia, SC -- May 4, 2015 -- On May 1, 2015, the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has begun issuing redesigned college license plates to comply with South Carolina Code of Law 56-3-8100, which requires a uniformity in SC specialty plates as requested by law enforcement.
