COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Some of the top collegiate tennis players in the Southeast will converge on Columbia for the annual Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's and women's tennis championships.

The tournament begins Friday at 8 a.m. with the second-seeded Benedict College women's team taking on Tuskegee, while the No. 2 seed Tuskegee men's team will take on No. 3 Stillman.

All matches will be played at the Columbia Tennis Center at 1635 Whaley Street. Admission is free.

COLUMBIA, SC -- President Barack Obama will visit South Carolina for the first time since winning the state's Democratic presidential primary in 2008.

Obama will attend a youth rally Friday at Benedict College, a historically black private school in Columbia, The White House said. Details about the president's trip will be released later this week.

His visit will come two weeks after Vice President Joe Biden swung through Columbia and Charleston.

Columbia, SC -- June 10, 2014 -- Mrs. Brenda Armstrong Clark, Benedict College Social Work Professor, will travel with a group of fourteen social work educators to Cuba June 14-22, 2014. Participants are members of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), who are full-time faculty members and/or administrators at their universities.

So maybe it’s not so surprising that I had an “aha moment” when the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina was invited to visit recently to receive the School of Business’ 2013 Community Leadership Award.
