Musical Group

The Benedict College Concert Choir has been dedicated to the preservation of African-American music throughout the history of the College.  The choir is recognized for its stylistic diversity and originality, performing works ranging from anthems, opera and oratorio choruses, African- American spirituals, classical and contemporary gospel, and interpretations of Broadway and popular tunes.  The choir's credits include performances with poet Maya Angelou, actor Clifton Davis, Gospel recording artist BeBe

The Concert Choir offers a wide range of leadership possibilities for which any responsible member may participate. Positions include choir officers (9 positions), accompanist, student conductor, section leader, and other various appointments. To hold any of these positions you must be opened minded, creative, responsible and dependable. However, along with the fore-mentioned, choir officer positions require specific prerequisite:

Music has been my life's circle and I look forward to sharing music's beauty with you.  Like a circle, the Concert Choir has been a performing ensemble of continuous, connecting, and embracing lines.  Together, collectively, we make music, and our aspiration is to give each other and our many audiences OUR MUSICAL BEST!

The Gospel Choir specializes in traditional and contemporary gospel, spirituals, and folk music which stems from the Black religious experience. Many who participate in this choir are persons preparing for some form of church vocation. This nationally acclaimed, award-winning choir is a major recruitment arm of the College, and is open to all students by audition or consent of the director.
