Benedict Alum Elder Bruce T. Howard, Jr. To Speak At Benedict's Baccalaureate Service May 5

Howard, Jr. will be the keynote speaker at Benedict College's Baccalaureate Service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013, in the Antisdel Chapel on the campus of Benedict College. The service is open to members of the Class of 2013, their families, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends.

The Baccalaureate Service is a traditional and religious service which celebrates the academic achievement of the graduating class. The graduates are commissioned to go forth to the next phase of their lives, to do well, and become a "power for good in society."

Elder Bruce T. Howard, Jr. earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Development from Benedict College in Columbia, SC. During his tenure at Benedict College, Elder Howard served as President of the Brothers and Sisters in Christ, student member to the Leadership Development Institute (Service Learning and Leadership Development), and Chaplin of the Resident Hall Association. His post graduate goals and aspirations are to receive his Master's and Ph.D. degree and to become a CEO/Founder of a Non-Profit Faith-Based Youth Enrichment Center that will empower, enrich, and educate the lives of today's youth.

Elder Howard accepted the call to the ministry in the fall of 2008. Later, he received his licenses to minister on May 2, 2010. In 2013, he became an Ordained Elder in Churches of God in Christ Inc.

Elder Howard has been accepted into the Georgia Teaching Fellows-Augusta. In this program, he will teach Special Education in a high needs school. Elder Howard will receive an intern certificate which is a temporary certification issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commissions. This will allow him to begin teaching full-time while working towards his full professional certification. Currently, he is employed with Bethel Hanberry Elementary School, Columbia SC, as an Instructional Aide where he strives to maintain a safe, secure and accessible environment for the youth he serves.

He is an active member of Rhema Christian Center, Columbia SC. He has served in many capacities such as the President of the Young Adult Ministry, Coordinator of the College Ministry, RCC Ministerial Team as a licensed minister, and an armor bearer/adjutant to the Pastor. On February 10, 2013, he was elevated to the office of Youth Pastor.
