The Benedict College Youth Leadership Institute (YLI), sponsored by the Office of Service-Learning and Leadership Development, is a supported community of high school sophomores and juniors who participate in an intensive academic experience. Through the Youth Leadership Institute, participants learn to chart a path for an academically and personally rewarding future characterized by achievement, independent thought, and social responsibility.
Students meet monthly and participate in a variety of activities that include mentoring, service projects, cultural awareness, college tours, and so much more.
To apply for participation in the Youth Leadership Institute, high school students must be officially classified as sophomores (10th grade) or juniors (11th grade) the year of their acceptance. Students must also have a minimum 2.7 Grade Point Average and submit a completed application (PDF) which includes: an essay, letter of reference from a community member, completed recommendation form from a school official, official transcript, and photograph.
