Columbia, SC -- September 7, 2012 -- Benedict College is proud to present its Faculty Exhibition featuring works by four art and art education faculty members: Gina Moore, Alex Wilds, Wendell Brown, and Tyrone Geter. These professors at the College explore divergent paths in their pursuit of truth and knowledge in their art. This exhibition will now be on view through December 8, 2012.
The opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. During the opening reception, the artists will present an open dialogue session regarding their artwork and illustrations with gallery patrons.
Gina Moore, the Visual Arts Computer Graphics professor, is one of our preeminent women designers working in South Carolina today, and has developed her own personalized and independent approach to computer imagery. Gina Moore often uses everyday objects like manhole covers as a jumping off point for her innovative creations.
Alex Wilds, the Visual Arts 3D instructor, is heavily influenced by his prolonged stay in Japan and a profound knowledge of the history of Japanese art and culture. His sculptures are large-scale, hand-carved wooden figures of the female form and other forms of more abstract orientation.
Wendell Brown is the Visual Arts 2D and Foundations instructor. He is a fabric artist who works in both 2D and 3D. He has been cited in numerous publications, including the NY Times, as an up and coming visionary who is not afraid to push the contemporary trends that sometimes stagnates today's art.
Tyrone Geter, professor for Foundation Drawing and Painting, focuses mostly on the human figure. He uses a variety of techniques including collage, mixed media, oils, pastels, and charcoal to supplement the messages incorporated into his art.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information and press photographs, contact Tyrone Geter at (803) 705-4768. Free parking is available campus-wide.
