The library collections consist of the following:
- The main book collection consists of over 100,000 volumes.
- The periodicals collection consists of over 300 current journal subscriptions (selected titles have back files in bound volume and microform format). This collection is supplemented by over 1,000 full-text online journals. It is very technologically advanced and provides access to many CD-ROM and online journals and databases (see ERC for access to the online resources).
- The Government Documents Depository consists of over 1,600 government publications.
- The African American Collection consists of more than 6,000 books, exhibits, artifacts, and audio-visuals depicting the life and history of African Americans in South Carolina and the nation.
All books in main collection are classified by discipline or subject according to the Library of Congress Classification scheme.
