Access/Research Services Department provides instructional programs and services to faculty, staff, students, and the community. These services include, but are not limited, to general reference, access to the library's online catalog, Interlibrary Loan Services, Information Literacy Sessions, and access to the Internet and online databases via the Electronic Reference Center. In addition, this Department establishes and administers all procedures relative to the circulation of library resources. The staff includes the Head of Access/Research Services, Reference Librarian, Electronic Reference Center Assistant, Circulation/Periodicals Assistants, and Student Assistants.
The main book collection consists of over 100,000 volumes. The periodicals collection consists of over 300 current journal subscriptions (selected titles have back files in bound volume and microform format). This collection is supplemented by over 1,000 full-text online journals. It is very technologically advanced and provides access to many CD-ROM and online journals and databases (see ERC for access to the online resources). The Government Documents Depository consists of over 1,600 government publications. It also houses African American Collection, which includes more than 6,000 books, exhibits, artifacts, and audio-visuals depicting the life and history of African Americans in South Carolina and the nation.
