"Divine Silk" Color Guard

WHEN: Saturday, April 14, 2012
AUDITION: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
WHERE: Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena, Room 128 (3rd floor)
ATTIRE: White t-shirt with athletic shorts (shorts maybe any color and please no words on the back).

Please create a flag routine to a song of your choice to be performed as part of your tryout. Your routine must not exceed 90 seconds, be sure to have your CD or tape with you ready to be played and no explicit language.

Knowledge of basic flag handling is Imperative. You will be asked to demonstrate Basic twirling (drop spins, push spins, butterflies, windmills, tosses etc.) I do understand that each school does twirling differently, please present the twirling techniques the way that your particular school does the moves. You will also perform a short routine that will be taught by the color guard instructor.
You will be judged on KNOWLEDGE OF THE ROUTINE, POISE, ENERGY, PHYSICAL FITNESS AND OVERALL BASIC FLAG HANDLING.

Young ladies who will not be able to make the April 14, 2012 tryout may submit their audition via DVD. Please prepare a 90 second routine to be judged by the Color guard Coordinator and Directors. Please also demonstrate Drop Spins, Push Spins, Windmills, Butterflies, any tosses that you can do and well as any other talents that you have as far as flag twirling.

"Sweet Sensation" Dance Squad

WHERE: Campus Dance Studio located in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena (3rd floor)
ATTIRE: Two-piece leotard (sports bra top/ dance briefs, no words on the briefs, No dance pants) skin-tone tights, and dance shoes. BE CREATIVE!!!

"Sweet Sensation" Dance Squad Information

We like to thank you for being interested in the Marching Tiger Band of Distinction's "Sweet Sensation" dance squad. This group of beautiful, intelligent, multi-talented, and highly energetic young ladies represent the Marching Tiger Band of Distinction and Benedict College of Columbia, South Carolina. The Coordinator/Choreographer is Mr. Bernard Fields. Mr. Fields has been dancing for over 19 years and marched in the percussion section from 2002-2007. It's going to take hard work, dedication, and discipline to be a "Sweet Sensation" dancer, please be reminded that this is an audition and the young ladies selected will be notified by mail / phone.

Select a two-piece audition outfit in a style and color that best complement your skin tone and figure. Wear matte, sheer to waist tights and/or hose that match your skin tone and wear shoes suitable for dance. Please wear a warm-up suit over audition attire during the down time. Jewelry can be distracting so limit to small on the lobe earrings, and no rings, chains, etc. Most important, be sure to practice dancing in your complete outfit before auditions to make sure everything fits properly and you are comfortable. Contestants will have to present Splits, Rolls. Back-bends, Cartwheels and Round-offs during the first round of tryouts. Contestants will have to perform a short routine that will be taught by Mr. Fields. You will be judged on TECHNIQUE, PHYSICAL FITNESS, ENERGY, and PRESENTATION!

Young ladies who will not be able to make the April 14, 2012 tryout may submit their audition via DVD. Make sure your routine consists of the following components: (Splits, Rolls. Back-bends, Cartwheels and Round-offs). The routine should exhibit your technical abilities as well!!

Instrumentalist Only

    • Chromatic Scale: Practical range of the instrument.
    • Major Scales: C, F, G, Bb, D, Eb, A, Ab, E, B, Db, Gb.
    • Prepared Material: etude (Study) and/or Solo Grade 4 or higher.
    • Sight-reading  (provided by the Director of Bands).
    • All 26 American Standard Rudiments  (Percussion players only)
