Dr. Bobby Jones is considered to be "The Ambassador for Gospel Music."
"The vocal quality of this group is phenomenal. I have never seen such creativity from a collegiate gospel choir, simply excellent" said, Dr. Bobby Jones, Host of the HBCU Hall of Fame Gospel Competition. "This award from the National Hall of Fame unmistakably reflects the quality of the all the students, who participate in the program," he added.
"Benedict College has become the benchmark of excellence," noted Mr. Darryl Izzard, Director of Benedict College Gospel Choir. "The choir's performance was both a musical delight and inspirational experience to thousands that assembled on Sunday evening. Local and national celebrities served as judges for the event. The award-winning Benedict College Gospel Choir certainly remains at the cornerstone of excellence here at Benedict College. Several members of the Benedict College family including alumni were able to share in the excitement of the triple win."
According to Mr. Izzard, "From the preliminary rounds to the final the crowd was on their feet as the Benedict College Gospel Choir lead them on a musical journey that included an acappella, hand-clapping, toe-tappin' traditional gospel favorite "God Is Good" (by Regina Bell), the timeless hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," climaxing with the chart-topper contemporary gospel tune, "Expect the Great" (by Jonathan Nelson). This year's performance by our choir left both the judges and the onlookers amazed by the creativity, energy, and vocal precision of Benedict Gospel. No other choir's presentation compared to ours; musicianship, creativity, energy, synergy, and just good ole fun!"
The competition showcased other Historically Black College choirs such as, North Carolina A&T University who placed 2nd, Miles College 3rd Place, and Florida A&M University who received Honorable Mention. Fort Valley State University and Fayetteville State University were also participants of this historic event.
Once again, the world famous award-winning Benedict College Gospel Choir reaches another plateau in its rich legacy of excellence in gospel music.
