The Student Government Association (SGA) rolled out the red carpet for the Coronation of Miss Benedict College 2005-2006, Miss Tina Ivory Sanders.
Theme for regal affair, "Coming to America," promised (and it was) to be a royal occasion as SGA and the Royal Court pay special tribute to Benedict's Queen Miss Sanders, a senior majoring in Mass Communications with a print concentration.
President David H. Swinton lead the official crowning ceremony, a tradition of confirmation. This grand event, which exudes an aura of dignity, is a platform for the Queen, her court, other queens representing campus organizations, former Benedict queens, and other distinguished guests to celebrate in unity.
Benedict's own Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, Dean of the School of Honors, served as Master of Ceremonies alongside Miss Rania Brown, who manages marketing for the Office of Public Relations, as Mistress of Ceremonies. The Coronation Reception followed in the David H. Swinton Campus Center and the Coronation Ball was held in the HRC Arena immediately after the reception.
Since entering the doors of Benedict College, Miss Sanders has been active in various organizations. She has held membership in the Benedict College School of Honors, the varsity Lady Tiger championship softball team, the Student Government Association, the Oak Street Dormitory Council, the first place Honor's Debate Team, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Prior to winning the Miss Benedict title, Miss Sanders has worn other crowns. During her past three years at Benedict, she has held the crown as Miss Oak Street, Miss School of Honors, and Second Attendant to Miss Homecoming.
In spite of Miss Sanders' busy college life, she still managed to maintain a 3.89 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and often gives back to the community by serving the homeless, and tutoring fellow classmates and adolescents at the New Jerusalem Interdenominational Church outreach tutorial program. After graduation, Miss Sanders plans to pursue a career in marketing at a Fortune 500 company while obtaining her Master's Degree. Her philosophy in life is: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Miss Sanders, the daughter of Louis and Alnoria Sanders, is a native of Columbia, Tennessee. She has two sisters, Lauranda and Tiffany, and one brother, Louis, III. Her father is a 1976 Benedict graduate.
