About The Business Development Center
Established in 2002 as the brainchild of Benedict College's Harvard-educated President, Dr. David Swinton, the Benedict College Business Development Center (BDC) was created with a mission to expand the college's role and effectiveness in addressing the economic and business development needs of small and minority businesses. Located at 2601 Read Street in Columbia, South Carolina, the center's goal is to create jobs, increase business development and provide entrepreneurial opportunities for low-to-moderate income persons.
The BDC's Mission
Our mission is to act as a catalyst for business development by increasing the economic capacity of small and minority-owned business in the metropolitan Columbia area and throughout South Carolina.
The BDC's Core Objectives
- Expand and enhance the number of small and minority-owned businesses in the community
- Provide financial and technical support, and business training to entrepreneurs
- Reduce business formation overhead costs to small businesses
- Provide a vehicle to increase contracting opportunities between small businesses and large corporations
