
At the 18th Annual Louis Stokes South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-SCAMP) Undergraduate Technology and Research conference held on Friday, November 4th 2011 on the campus of South Carolina State University, Benedict College students from the School of STEM showed a strong dominance of their presentation skills in both oral and poster divisions by winning a plethora of awards. Student presenters Brittany Bates, Jessica Carswell, Jazra Gibson-Jackson, Shaqueda Jenkins, Kenyon Littles, Rose Ndeto, Tatiana Rosser, Sarita Sharp, Jaresha Taylor, Brandon Wright, and Glory Zhou participated in research presentations in the divisions of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Engineering. Faculty in attendance were Dr. Samuel Darko, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Dr. Silvia Atim and Vivian Counts (Benedict College SCAMP Director). Awardees received cash book awards and included:

Sarita Sharp – 3rd Place, Biology II (Annette Fitzpatrick and Co-Mentor Christy McKinney, University of Washington, Australia)
Jessical Carswell – 3rd place, Biology I (Mentor: Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Benedict College)
Jaresha Taylor – 1st Place, Chemistry (Mentor: Dr. Samuel Darko, Benedict College)
