On October 28th, 2017, the Benedict College Center for Cybersecurity held its first Drone Technology and Entrepreneur Workshop at Benedict College in the Human Resource Center – Gym and athletic field. In collaboration with Jamesetta James of IT-Ology and Dr. Keith Young of EcoTek lab located in Detroit Michigan, a drone informational session was held to provide students and the community with an opportunity to become involved in a new project to use drones via an agriculture grant to monitor crops using drones. The new Drone Technology and Entrepreneur Project seeks to employee high school and college students for this venture which does not require the student to relocate but work remotely managing the drones. The goal of the new initiative is to recruit 20 to 35 students to be trained in C## programming, building, flying and repairing the drone.

In additions, selected students will participate in a 6 - 8 week self-paced training program to prepare for the FAA Drone Pilot License. After passing the FAA exam students will be hired as interns by two tech farms in Florida as a pilot before a national roll-out. Students attending the informational session this past weekend had an opportunity to fly drones on the Benedict College athletic field and talk directly with Dr. Young of Ecotek. In addition, students from the Benedict College Upward Bound program took advantage of the opportunity to be informed about the project and showed real interest in becoming more involved with the new Drone Technology and Entrepreneur Initiative. At this point, the project is opened to K-12 students and undergraduates, so please share the knowledge. The Center for Cybersecurity 2018 Summer Cybersecurity Camp will focus on drone technology.

If interested and for any questions about the Center for Cybersecurity drone initiative, summer camp, or a drone project presentation to your class and or group, please contact Dr. Leon T. Geter at (803) 705-4596 or
