Columbia, SC -- January 13, 2017 -- The Benedict College Board of Trustees appointed 13 stakeholders to serve on the Presidential Search Committee to assist the Board in identifying the next president. The committee is a diverse group of Board members, faculty, administrators, community members, and students who share the commitment of finding the best qualified person to serve in this most important position. The Search Committee has launched a national search for the institution’s 14th president who will succeed President Dr. David Holmes Swinton, who will retire on June 30, 2017.

In recent weeks, members of the Presidential Search Committee met with several national search firms to discuss the recruitment of Benedict’s next leader. The Committee has selected TM2 Education Search (TM2), a Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s (TMCF) subsidiary. TM2 was founded by former Black College Presidents/Chancellors and Alumni to identify talent that addresses the leadership needs of the Black College community. TM2 brings over 75 years of combined experience in black college leadership and talent acquisition which makes them uniquely qualified to identify proven, highly effective and strategic leaders for the schools.

Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy, former President of Johnson C. Smith University and Shaw University, and Christopher Braswell, President of TM2 will be the lead consultants working with the Benedict College on this important search. In the upcoming weeks, TM2 will assist the search committee in the development of the presidential leadership profile, which will include a list of key criteria and qualifications needed in the next Benedict leader. This will require the involvement of the entire College community through stakeholder meetings to solicit input as they create the profile to help identify qualified candidates. Updates and information about the position will be provided and available on the Benedict website. Please check in frequently for updates and announcements from the Presidential Search Committee.
