bc_license_plate001Columbia, SC -- May 4, 2015 -- On May 1, 2015, the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has begun issuing redesigned college license plates to comply with South Carolina Code of Law 56-3-8100, which requires a uniformity in SC specialty plates as requested by law enforcement.

All the new license plates, including the specialty tags promoting schools, professional organizations and social causes, will take on a standard template. The new plates have a white background with black letters and numbers, and "South Carolina" written across the bottom in black lettering. Distinct accent coloring now utilized in special plates will no longer be included.

The new specialty tags will have color emblems such as college logos to the left of the plate's identification letters and numbers. The specialty plates will be topped, between red and blue stripes, with wording in black lettering.

Benedict College License Plates are $70.00 every two years in addition to the registration fee. Forty dollars of the special plate fee will be sent to the specified school for scholarships. To purchase your new Benedict College License Plate, please go to, click on Vehicle Plate Gallery, and then click on College and University License Plates.
