POSITION: Athletic Trainer

DEPARTMENT: Athletics Department
WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible, nights, weekends, holidays and overnight travel
SALARY: Commensurate with experience

REPORT TO: Athletics Director

BASIC FUNCTION: Provide athletic trainer coverage for all athletic programs.


Evaluate and advise individuals to assist recovery from or avoid athletic-related injuries or illnesses, or maintain peak physical fitness. May provide first aid or emergency care.


  • Provide athlete and coach orientation.
  • Establish an effective athletic training program for the College.
  • Provide first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for all Benedict College student athletes. The athletic trainer is responsible for making appropriate physician referrals.
  • Coordinate the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
  • Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
  • Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
  • Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room.
  • Maintain communication with parents on the care and treatment of their student athlete.
  • Travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events.
  • File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
  • Maintain a daily treatment log.
  • Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory. Provide the Athletic Director with a recommendation for an annual budget for supplies and equipment.
  • Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment.
  • Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
  • Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
  • Plan or implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs. Share professional literature relative to athletic training with the College’s coaching staff.
  • Instruct coaches, athletes, parents and medical personnel in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  • Advise athletes, coaches, or trainers on exercise regimens, nutrition, or equipment use.
  • Accompany injured athletes to hospitals.
  • Respond in a timely manner to students, staff and parents regarding complaints and/or inquiries.
  • Participate in management team meetings to stay aware of the activities of other departments and campus initiatives.
  • Perform team support duties, such as running errands, maintaining equipment, or stocking supplies.


Masters Degree in Athletic Training or a related field. The athletic trainer will practice within the parameters of the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Licensing Law as laid out by the South Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners and follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. Experience and knowledge of: current practices in the delivery of athletic programs at a post-secondary institution; student athletic issues; supervision techniques; administrative budgeting financial recordkeeping and control procedures; NCAA rules and practices; sport procedures and practices. Must have the ability to: develop and provide athletic services to meet the needs of a wide variety of student athletes; supervise and train student athletes and coaches in a variety of intensive athletic training sessions; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.

POSITION: Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

DEPARTMENT: Athletic Department
WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible; nights, weekends, holidays and overnight travel required
SALARY: Commensurate with experience

DIRECT REPORT: Head Coach, Associate Athletic Director

FUNCTION: To assist the head coach with all aspects of maintaining a highly competitive Division II men basketball program within the policy framework of the institution.


  1. Must have a Bachelor Degree.
  2. Previous coaching experience required.
  3. Head coaching or collegiate coaching experience preferred.

DUTIES: The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Recruitment and development of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes while maintaining a recruiting database;
  2. Coordinating on-campus prospect visits and off-campus recruiting
  3. Monitoring student-athlete academic development and well-being
  4. Player development both in strength and individual skill development
  5. Assist with practice and game planning and management
  6. On the floor coaching in practice and game situations
  7. Scouting opponents
  8. Overseas scheduling of opponents
  9. Coordination of team travel
  10. Order and maintain supplies & equipment
  11. Assisting with organizing and directing camps and clinics
  12. Participates in fundraising activities, public relation activities and special projects
  13. Complete and submit all necessary Institution, conference and NCAA required documents and reports
  14. Working closely with the university admissions and financial aid office and the NCAA Compliance Coordinator and housing director
  15. Other duties assigned by the head coach.
