Columbia, SC -- July 18, 2014 -- Benedict College School of STEM Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) will host its annual student oral and poster presentations and program's closing ceremony on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Dr. Cynthia F. Wright, Associate Dean for Admissions & Career Development from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC will be the Keynote Speaker at the closing program.
The 2014 SURI program began on Tuesday, May, 27, 2014 with an orientation session. Faculty mentors presented their research seminars to the student participants. Each Friday morning throughout the session, students made 15-minute presentations on their summer research topics that were attended by both students and faculty mentors. Thirty one students and 11 faculty members participated in the SURI program.
As part of this year's initiative, a joint USC-BC workshop was held on July 1, 2014 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina. The Workshop topic was on Electrochemical Materials and Cells for Energy Applications. Professor Kevin Huang of USC and Professor Changyong Qin of Benedict College co-sponsored the workshop, which was attended by faculty and students from both institutions.
