Shirley Patterson is a resident of Beaufort, SC. She graduated in the class of 1971 with a BS in Business Education. She continued her education in business at York College, Jamaica NY and the Technical College of the Low country, Beaufort, SC. Attended Georgia Technical College in Atlanta, GA and is certified to teach for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in General Industry and Construction. For over 24 years, Shirley has been employed by the Federal Government. She is a safety inspection for US Marine Corps, Parris Island. Primary duties are to teach AAA Drivers Improvement courses, OSHA courses and inspect buildings. Shirley is happily married to retired MSGT Ronald W. Patterson USMC and they have a daughter, SPC Tonya T. Patterson USA.
Civic & Community Activities: She is a member and secretary at the Historical Tabernacle Baptist Church in Beaufort. Her work and participation in the many ministries at Tabernacle are unending and she does it well. She is a member of Mizpah Chapter #4, Order of Eastern Star and Ladies Auxiliary of the Montford Point Marines Association.
Alumni Association Involvement: Involvement with Benedict College Alumni Association covers a span of thirty years. For the past 5 years, she serves as the president of the Beaufort County Benedict College Alumni Club. Prior to becoming the president of her Club, she served as vice president for four years. She is currently a committee member for: the Scholarship, Membership and BCNAA Newsletter committees.
She is also a member of the Mather School National Alumni Association. Recently, she spearheaded the Association’s 27th Reunion Anniversary as area coordinator in Beaufort. Under her leadership, the reunion was a gigantic success. During the reunion in July, Shirley was elected treasurer for the Association.
