Moses Mims, Jr. is a 1968 cum laude graduate of Benedict College with a BA degree in Social Science. His original career plan was to become a teacher of Social Studies, but the army intervened shortly after his graduation and instead of becoming a teacher, he went to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in September 1969. After seven years of active duty, he returned to his home town of Aiken, South Carolina and has spent the past 28 years working in Payroll management at the Savannah River Site. He is married to the former Betty Ryans of Aiken, and they are the proud parent of two great children, a son, Anthony, who is a captain in the U. S. Air Force and a daughter, Erica, who is a registered nurse.
Civic & Community Activities: He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and has held numerous offices in his fraternity including Parliamentarian for the Southeastern Province, which includes the states of Georgia and South Carolina; he is the treasurer of Aiken County Democratic Party and each year, for the past three years, Mr. Mims rides a bicycle 150 miles over two days, to raise funds to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Alumni Association Involvement: He is the president of the Aiken County Benedict College Club.
