She attended grade school and high school in Greenville, SC. She graduated in 1966 with a BA in Elementary Education. While at Benedict, she was a member of the French Club, YWCA, Student National Education Association and AKA Sorority, Inc. Her Masters Degree was earned from Morgan State University in Reading. She received certification for administration from Bowie State University. Further studies were done at Towson University and Loyola College. Immediately after graduation, she accepted a teaching position in Lancaster, SC and worked there for one year as a first grade teacher. She returned to her home city of Greenville, SC where she worked for two years as an elementary school teacher. In 1969, she and her husband were employed by the AACPSS in Maryland. She worked as an elementary classroom teacher, reading specialist, administrative intern, assistant principal and principal in MD before retiring in 2002. Civic & Community Activities: She is a member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church of Severn, MD where she serves as Treasurer, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School and church council member. She is an active member of the Quarterfield Farms Homeowners Association. She is a Commissioner and Vice-Chair of the Anne Arundel County Human Relations Commission. She is a charter member and first president of Omicron Gamma Omega Chapter, AKA Sorority Inc., Glen Burnie, MD. Currently, she serves as chairperson of the Standards Committee. Alumni Involvement: She has been active with the Baltimore Area Alumni Club for many years. She served as president of the club twice and presently is the immediate past president. Under her leadership, the club experienced a growth in membership and an increase in its annual giving. She actively recruits students for Benedict by attending high school college fairs in the area, meeting with prospective students and parents and sharing information about the college. She is a life member of BCNAA and gives generously to the annual giving campaign. Several years she received the Millennium Club Award in recognition of her outstanding financial support to Benedict. She has been an active participant on the National membership committee and regularly attends the spring planning meeting and the annual meeting. |
